For decades, The King’s School has fostered the arts in Australia through its prestigious show, whichissupportedbyMercedes-BenzParramatta. Spread acrossthreevenues,theeventshowcased 1,000 artworks, all of which are for sale. Headlining the event was the $20,000 King’s Art Prize, an acquisitive award presented to the artist judged the best contemporary artwork, created by an artist resident in Australia and represented by a commercial gallery. David Frank was judged the premier artist last year, while Tony Lloyd was given the inaugural Boys’ Choice award. Some of the country’s finest artists have been honoured with the King’s Art Prize, including Ben Quilty, Geoffrey De Groen, and Joanna Logue. In 2016, 40,000 people attended the show, when it returned to its original setting of Gowan Brae and similar numbers attended this year. The finalists for the 2017 King’s Art Prize were Marc Etherington, Regina Wilson, Joanna Lamb, Greg Hodge, Christopher Horder, Ruth Waller, Joanna Braithwaite, Joe Furlonger, Steven Harvey, Peter Godwin, Sally Stokes, Mclean Edwards Kathryn Ryan. HILLS GRAMMAR TO HOLD FIRST SPRING FAIR IN FIVE YEARS The Hills Grammar Spring Fair returns for the first time in five years on 22 October, as part of the school’s 35th anniversary celebrations. Mercedes-BenzParramattaisasponsor of the event, which includes lots of food, entertainment and fun. There will be a smorgasboard of food options from paella to nachos and a big pulled pork barbecue. The school’s music groups will provide live entertainment alongside local groups including Franky Valentyn for the young kids in the morning and Jellybean Jam at lunchtime. There will be face painting, kids’ craft and lolly and bake stalls, alongside all the other types of stalls you would expect at a school fair. For extra fun, there will be a haunted house, limousine rides, carnival games and bubble soccer. The fair will be in aid of the new Learner’sWalk,whichwillwindthrough the school’s 18-hectare campus, including pristine bushland and past an archaeological dig. It will also lead to outdoor classrooms, a sculpture garden, ropes course and adventure playground. The Learner’s Walk is an important project for the school’s students and the local community. TheHillsGrammarParentsandFriends’ Association is aiming to raise the funds to get the project started. The Spring Fair will be held at the HillsGrammarcampusat43 Kenthurst Road, Kenthurst on 22 October from 10am to 4pm.
