URBANDRIVER 11 Forget the old school tuckshop, this café in the leafy suburb of Glenhaven is serving up some seriously delicious food you can enjoy for breakfast, brunch or lunch. WORDS Bruce Nelson PHOTOS Tuckshop GLENHAVEN WAS CRYING OUT FOR A PLACE FOR LOCALS to enjoy a relaxed breakfast or casual lunch, so in 2014 former Parramatta Eels legend and Brand Partner at Mercedes- Benz Castle Hill, Nathan Hindmarsh, along with friends Ricky Row, Mike Ico and Matthew Stone decided to do something about it. The result is the Tuckshop, serving up a new take on good-old-fashioned favourites like cheeseburgers and bacon-and-egg rolls alongside more healthy options like green smoothies and salad bowls. Set at the front of a small shopping centre opposite the Glenhaven Oval, the concept is quite simple – no reservations, a place to park your push-bike and a bowl to hydrate your four- legged friend, with plenty of communal seating inside or out. And if you can’t find a seat you can borrow a rug and head over to the park for a makeshift picnic. Five years after it opened its doors, Tuckshop has not only become the go-to for locals, but it’s also finding a growing fan base from further afield from people taking the drive out to eat before heading to Wisemans Ferry via the Old Northern Road or on a Blue Mountains adventure.
