24 WINTER2019 Here is your guide to Winterlight Parramatta 2019. SKATE AND SLIDE There’s no better way to fully embrace winter than by slapping on the ice skates and heading for the largest outdoor ice-skating facility in Sydney, the 7NEWS Ice Rink located in Prince Alfred Square. The rink will be the centre of action for Winterlight with activities for young and old planned throughout the festival. Tickets are available for 45-minute open sessions and 20-minute sessions for kids. Special offers with unlimited sessions are available, including opening night on Friday, July 5. EAT Whether it’s a break from the office for lunch, or a night out with family and friends, the Alpine Food Village takes winter eating to a new level in Parramatta during Winterlight. Diners can enjoy lunchtime specials on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12 noon to 3pm. Tuesdays are even bigger with two- for-one deals on ice-skating tickets, amusement rides and food. Market Street will also come alive for foodies for the first time this year as The Parramatta Night Markets are open from 5pm to 9pm on July 8 to 11. PLAY Apart from ice skating and carnival rides, there’s plenty to do at Winterlight, especially for kids. They can learn to make their own luminous paper lantern at the Illuminated Winter Lantern Workshop from Thursday to Sunday, July 18-21, between 6pm and 8pm. There’s also a Shadow Screen Puppet Workshop that aims to inspire adults and children alike to experience the magic of the theatre. It’s an opportunity to embrace their imagination and create their own shadow puppet. The workshops are being held from Friday to Sunday, July 12-14, between 6pm and 8pm. The Circus Playground also promises to be fun for young and old testing their skills at juggling, stilts, and spinning and balancing objects during this unique workshop. Circus Playground is being held every weekend of Winterlight.
